No Longer Lost in Space

This finish has been named Deep Space after living in a quilting black hole for 8 1/2 years. I started this in 2008 when we first moved to Queensland. It kept me company and also kept my sanity. Then I started working full-time and it was pushed to the back burner. It took me a while to get back in the quilting swing. Once quilting again there were so many things I wanted to do that this quilt was not a priority. Now I can say that it has been feeling the love again, is no longer abandoned and is finished!

I hand basted this way back when and can safely say that I will, wherever possible, never do that again. Given that it sat bunched up for 8 years there is not too much puckering in the quilting.

I love the solid purple backing and white with black daisy binding. Now I try to piece my backings from all the left over pieces in each quilt so the solid was a trip down memory lane.

Deep Space was on my Finish Along Q1 list. So also another tick that this quilt is finally finished.

A Finish Catch Up

This is a quilt I finished a while ago. I love bright colours and wanted a quick and easy quilt. I decided I would make a stack and slash quilt, that would be a quick project. Well quick and easy took about 8 years to finish but now it is done. Just look at that beautiful Brisbane sunny day in the trees at the back of the photo.

I quilted it myself with large free form stars and asterisks. The binding is a black with white spots.

This quilt is well loved and now resides in my daughter's car.

The Triangles are on Their Way Out

I have finished my triangle quilt and am so happy with how it looks. it was made with the fabric I had left from my Pink Ribbon Raffle Quilt last year and will be going to the Children's Hospital.

Red Black and White Quilt

The photo of the back shows my Straight line diagonal quilting which is in a red wine colour on both the front and back of the quilt.

The quilt measures 55 x 55 inches. All fabric including the extra backing pieces came from the cupboard and many of the triangles pieces are from the Harajuku line by Greta Lynn for Kanvas. I have very few triangles leftover which are now in the over flowing scrap bag.

This is the first completed item from my Finish Along Quarter 1 list.

A Busy Backing

I was determined to use up every last leftover triangle from last week's flimsy to make the back for that same top. Apologies in advance for the terrible photo quality.

Red Black and White Quilt

I just about did. I think it took almost as long to piece as the quilt front but I am so happy with it. The piecing is not curved. There was a breeze while I was taking the photograph and the quilt would not stay still.

Now just to quilt it. It has been so hot and humid here in Brisbane that I am putting off trying to push the quilt through my old Bernina. I am loving the cobwebs in the lights that we always have hanging across our deck. Happy stitching everyone.

The First Flimsy for the Year

I feel like I have had a slow start to the year. In reality I have been working on three different quilts at the same time but I do have a finished top to spare. It could be called a scrap quilt as it is made from the leftover fabric from my Pink Ribbon Quilt.

Walkers Road Quilts

It has been so hot here and working with lots of fabric uncomfortable so I have been playing with lots of scraps. This one is for charity when it is finished.

2017 Finish Along Q1 Goals

I managed to finish 5 out of 6 goals last quarter and was quite happy with that, this quarter I am aiming to complete another 7. I have 18 quilts on my UFO list and  would like to complete them all by the end of this year giving me a chance to plan a whole new list for 2018 -  not sure how successful I will be but here goes with the Quarter 1 list.

1. All Linked up - just need to finish piecing this quilt and then make it all the way to the finish line. It is a gift so that should get me moving.

Walkers Road Quilts

2. Triangle Quilt. - this one will be going to the oncology unit at the Lady Cilento Children's Hospital here in Brisbane. The first 2 rows are complete.

Red Black and White Quilt

3. Deep Space - This has been on the list repeatedly and is half way quilted- now just to get to the finish line. This UFO is coming up to its 9th birthday and needs to be loved by someone.

Walkers Road Quilts

4. Jelly Roll Rain - needs basting and quilting. This was a Group Challenge in 2014, time to get it done.

Walkers Road Quilts

5. Starry Night - the paper piecing has begun now to be completed.

Star Quilt

6. PP Birdhouse Block Swap - I was part of a block swap for a while but found it became too time consuming and I wasn't getting much else done. these blocks are some which I received. iIwould need to make a couple more to compete a quilt.

Swap Blocks

7. PP Star Block Swap - same deal as the birdhouses. I have 11 blocks - make one more and put together.

Swap Blocks

All the best for meeting your Quarter 1 goals.

Farewell 2016 - Final Finish

Christmas Hanging

This bunting was finished before Christmas. It was my Secret Santa Present for my work colleague. The pattern is by Smee Designs. I love making nativity based hangings for Secret Santa Presents.
