What to do in a heatwave.

2015 FAL at On the Windy SideBoy has it been hot here in Brisbane! The humidity has been so uncomfortable. not exactly quilting weather.
Despite that, I have managed to move along on one of my nominated projects for the 2015 Finish Along.

The quilt top from the Australian Patchwork and Quilting Mystery Quilt has been completed. I have not used the suggested light and dark colour way nor have I bordered the quilt as was also suggested. I wanted to only make this quilt from my stash and so far I have managed that. I am happy with the bright result and am looking forward to basting and finishing this quilt.

So, what else can be done when the heat makes it very uncomfortable to sit at the sewing machine under a pile of fabric? Why, start another project of course, what else could there be to do? This time I decided to try my hand at hexies.

I have cut my own templates as i was too impatient to wait to be able to purchase any. i have had a Birdie Jelly Roll by Me and My Sister Designs for Moda for a while now and decided that it would be perfect for this project. It is a very pretty fabric range. So now I have another project on the go but at least it is perfect for the hot weather and very addictive.

Happy Stitching.

Finishing Projects!

I have enjoyed peeking into the quilting world of Adrianne at On the Windy Side. She certainly churns out a lot of work. As I am feeling inspired by this and had promised myself that 2015 would be the year of finishing I am going to participate in the 2015 Finish-Along that she is hosting.

So... here are the  projects I am hoping to complete in Quarter 1.

1. Australian Patchwork & Quilting Mystery Quilt - this needs the final rows added, borders, quilting and binding.

2. Deep Space - quilting and binding are all that is left for this one.
3. Squares - this one has been around for at least 8 years.  Two border pieces to add and then to finish it off.
I think this will keep me very busy.

Let the Adventure Begin!

I commenced my 50th year a few weeks ago and have set myself the task of making a Dear Jane Quilt to mark the occasion and hopefully it will be well underway by my 50th birthday in December 2015. I have trawled through my fabric collection and settled on a more modern, slightly tropical colour selection for this quilt. hopefully it will be bright and fresh looking when it is finally completed. I love paper piecing and will use this method as much as possible in this quilt. I need to purchase some more fabric for this quilt and cannot wait to begin stitching it.

I want this blog to help to keep me on track.

Alongside the Dear Jane Quilt I have a few other projects which I would like to finish before the end of the year, so, it is going to be a busy one.

To add some colour to this post I have included a full picture of the quilt I made for my youngest child. It is the Judy Neimeyer pattern Tropical Rainbow.

If you happen to be passing through thank you for taking the time to have a look at my first post. Hopefully you will visit again.

Happy stitching.
