Progress, Slow but Steady Progress

My nephews quilt is progressing. I am half way through the quilting. I am straight line quilting this one by eye, so straight line may not be the best description for it.

I love it and cannot wait to see it finished. Only 60 or so more lines of quilting to go. There is so much more on my list to do I need to finish it soon. I am itching to start selecting fabric and cutting out more projects.

Finish Number 1

2016 FAL

My first finish for the Finish Along. Here is my list Finish Along 2016

Well, I have to say that this is the ugliest quilt I have ever made. It is so not me and that is probably why it has taken so long to finish despite it being a simple pattern. It was started so long ago that I don't even know why I started it or what I thought I was going to do with it. Anyhow!

I quilted it myself with radiating lines from a centre point on the short ends out to the edge.

Now it will probably live in the back of the car.

While it will never be my favourite I am happy that it is finally finished.

Finish-A-Long 2016

2016 FAL

Well it is list making time again and as per usual I am going to be very ambitious but also realistic about my chances of completing anything on the list below. My success rate last year was not good so I am suggesting that one project from the list below would be great.

Thank you to all who are hosting the 2016 Finish Along. I love looking at other people's amazing achievements and being inspired by them.

Here is my Quarter 1 list

1.  This has been on the list for all of last year but now has the final border on and the backing joined. Just need to baste, quilt and bind.

2. My nephew's quilt. Needing quilting and binding.

3 Another rollover - Jelly Roll Quilt -Basting , quilting and binding.

4. This Mystery Quilt is halfway quilted. It would be nice to get it finished.

5. These 3 sew together bags are taking far too long.

6. These cupcake mitts have proven to be very fiddly but I will persist as I cut so many out. A head start on Christmas maybe.

Good luck with all your Quarter 1 Finish Along projects.
Happy stitching.

Final Finish Along 2015

2015 Finish-Along

I've just  linked my finishes in the 2015 Finish Along Q4 with Adrienne at http://www.onthewindyside.co.nz/

I have enjoyed looking at everyone's finishes and started on my list for 2016. It is daunting but as I am so good at rolling projects over each quarter I am sure I will not be too concerned and will get something completed eventually.

Thanks Adrienne for hosting this massive undertaking. My finishes are below.

Good luck with those 2016 Quarter 1 lists.

Merry Sewing Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone.

Today is a day of rest, though I did start it trimming the last of the blocks for my nephew's quilt as everyone else in the house slept in.
As we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour I wish eveyone a very merry Christmas.

Happy stitching.

What to do while on Holidays, Hmmm

Merry Christmas,

Holidays have begun and so has a new project. I have three weeks off work and will be making a quilt for my nephew. His mother has requested red and blue and left the rest up to me. I am to use my MIL's fabrics for this quilt so that he has something from her also.

He loves playing with balls so I thought I would give the drunkard's path block a go and make his quilt with lots of circles. I had to add a bit of lime green as I did not like the blue and red only combination. Cutting them all out was a quicker exercise than I thought it would be. The finished quilt will be approximately 84 x 72 inches  depending on what I do with the border. This is still to be decided.

I found a great tutorial here  http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com.au/2011/06/running-in-circles-tutorial.html for making these blocks. It really is a simple process and no where near as daunting when a simple explanation for putting something together can be found. Hooray for technology.

So far the blocks that have been sewn together look fine. They are ready for ironing and joining into rows. Below is a photo of some of the cut pieces laid out on the floor as I was trying to sort and balance the pieces to make a decent looking colour mix. I just might manage to complete this one before I have to go back to work. I can always hope for a miracle.

Happy stitching and Merry Christmas.

A Crazy Busy Llife

I have a crazy busy life but there is always time to sew. I have finished my Secret Santa gift and it is now wrapped and under the tree at work. I enjoyed making this one. The opportunity to use my scraps is always welcome and even though that crate of scraps is overflowing there is some satisfaction in not having to cut into my stash all the time.

I made my own version of Nancy Halvorsen's 'Joy to the World' wall quilt but turned it into a Christmas swag instead.

Work has been a constant of 12 hour days and sewing has been happening in the early hours of the morning quite often around 3am. I love the early morning as I am the only person awake in the house and it is so peaceful. A great time to get things done.

Enjoy your Christmas preparations.
