It counts as a finish of sorts... doesn't it?

I have completed a layout and in my mind that counts as a finish of sorts. While my fabric selection looked good as a clump I was not happy with it once the blocks were completed.
This quilt will be a gift for a 10 year old boy. It started off as red blue and black only but needed a lift hence the yellow star in the centre.

The problem with having 20+ projects on the go is that I never have an uninterrupted finish but hey that works for me.

I love seeing what others are making and am linking up with Finish it up Friday.

Pink Ribbon Finish

Long time no type but there has been some sewing. I have completed my Pink Ribbon Raffle quilt.

I saw this post at mmmquilts and loved the concept and set out to make something similar. The fabric bundle used for this was one that I have had for a short time and is Little Harajuku from Benartex with a few others thrown in. It seemed to be perfect for this style of quilt.  I worked with an 8 inch square leaving my 3 steps uneven but I think that adds interest. The quilt finished at 56x56 inches

I used a white on white print and grey spot on white for the background fabrics.

The backing is Island Hopping by Connecting Threads in cherry. I pieced all the Harajuku scraps together into a strip for the back and embroidered a label also. The binding is another Connecting Threads fabric - Pen and Inked by Winthur Sempliner. I love black and white bindings on quilts.

I have to say that my very basic straight line quilting does not compare to the beautiful feathers on the original quilt. The quilting lines were in the ditch top to bottom and then a 1/2 inch either side of the seam.

The quilt was raffled off at our Pink Ribbon breakfast and I am happy to see it go to a new home. it was for a good cause and you can't get anything better than that.

This is one off the Finish Along Quarter 3 list (I think the only one).

The start of a finish

At the beginning of the year I started hunting for a scrappy quiltalong. I found Circa 2016 hosted by The Temecula Quilt Company. I thought I would give it a go, paticuIarly as it was going to be an opportunity to make a variety of traditional blocks.I have not really touched it since other than to cut out the pieces for many of the 3 inch blocks. I am on quilt retreat this weekend and brought this with me as a project. I have finished sewing the very centre together.
I have also completed some of the 3 inch blocks.
This is going to be a bright and happy scrappy quilt.

3. Equilateral Triangle Quilt  - This has been my leader and ender quilt. A couple of rows left to complete then join, quilt and bind. Same fabric as the Pink Ribbon Quilt.

4. Sunflower Quilt - just in case there is are a few moments left. more blocks to be completed.

Lots to do and so little time. There are many more that could make the list but I am trying to be realistic.

Catriona's Moda Love Quilt Finished

Another finish from my Finish Along Quarter 2 list! I feel like have achieved a lot in this quarter and this quilt is another 21st present. A big tick for the Finish Along list and on time for the birthday. That is usually unheard of. All gifts are usually late when they are handmade by me.

The pattern was free and called Moda Love. I chose to make the larger 72 inch square. All the blues and greens are from stash and the background is Faux Burlap in black.

The backing is Galactic Geo in Sprout from Connecting Threads with some of the leftover blocks from the the front to make up the backing short fall.

It is quilted in a simple cross hatch on the diagonal which looks a bit like a loose tartan weave and finished with a hand stitched label.

Sunlight on Rockpools

The Giant Hexie quilt is finished and reminds me of sunlight on rockpools.

I agonised over how to quilt this one and in the end decided on free form wavy lines.
The wavy lines resemble sunlight on shallow water. At least that is how I see it. I am liking the look and loved the lack of the need for precision. As long as I could keep them fairly well lined up across the quilt it was looking ok.

The top red fabric in the picture above is a hand dyed fabric by Lisa Walton of Dyed & Gone to Heaven. I love the little bit of iridescence.

2016 FAL

The backing is 'Blast Off' by Connecting Threads. This quilt measures 83 x 64 inches and was on my Quarter 2 Finish Along list. I am happy to tick another item off that list.

As it is a 21st present and will be a surprise also I hope it is well received.
The final photo is of my son saying 'Are we done now, isn't that enough?'

Catriona's Quilt

This box of gorgeous colour was set aside to become a Moda Love quilt top.

What an easy pattern to use for a quick to put together 21st present. The box of colour soon became this...

and then this...

The black Faux Burlap fabric is from Connecting Threads. In amongst the blues and greens are some Hoffman batiks and hand dyes from Dyed and Gone to Heaven.

Then it looked like this

And finally this..

I love this quilt top. Now just to get this and the large hexie quilt basted and quilted.

I am linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts for finish it up Friday.
