Finish-Along Quarter 4 - another attempt to complete something... anything.

Well, here I go again ambitiously hoping that I can actually achieve something this quarter. Last quarter I finished one of my listed table runners but did not link my post before the Q3 deadline.

So fingers briefly crossed, because I am not going to achieve much if I keep them crossed!

There is a bit of deja vu in this post and then some extra sewing as well.

Item 1 - AP&Q Mystery Quilt -
Its a mystery to me why I haven't finished it, it must have something to do with all those new projects I keep starting. Quilting almost finished, then just a binding.

Item 2: Squares Quilt- If I manage to complete this one it will be a miracle.

Item 3 - Cup Cake Oven Mitts - Christmas Gifts for Work Colleagues - By my calculation I need 10 sets.

Item 4 - Table Runner - For my quilting group challenge - has a deadline so should be done. Needs quilting and binding.

Item 5 - Goody Goody Binding Kit - Quilting group Christmas gift - binding only to go.

Item 6 - Owl pot holder - had kit for a while. Would just like to get it done.

Item 7 - Sew together bags - 3 for my sisters in law - to be made from these beautiful fabrics (terrible photos) which were my mother in laws.

Item 8 - Four of these appliqued towels; one each for Harry, Evelyn, Audrey and Charlie.

Item 9 - Jelly Roll Challenge Quilt - Quilting Group Challenge. I am going to use this one to practice my free motion quilting. Needs quilting and binding.

So off I go to sew and hopefully finish something. Good luck with your finishes. I am linking up with Adrienne at http://www.onthewindyside.co.nz/

Second Table Runner or... Table Runner Take 1

It's bright! very bright!

This table runner was my first attempt to meet the table runner challenge in which I was participating. I was worried that it did not fully meet the brief of my partner. I am sure that it met the request for bright colours but wondered if it was too much. I love how it has finished up and will be keeping it myself. The challenge is over and I have sent the runner from my previous post to my partner.

.

This runner measures 21 inches square and is made up from a Moda Marbles Cirtus Charm Pack.

The black and white fabrics were all from my scrap crate and stash. I madly free motion quilted it without any marked pattern and am happy with the final outcome.

To me it looks like a bright summer garden. Enjoy the weather as it warms up here in Australia.

Runner Completed

My charm square table runner for a swap is complete. It ended up being a monster of a runner as I wanted to use as much of each charm square that I could. my brief was for bright colours and I certainly hope that I have met that. it was good to send it to its new home this morning. One finish for me - another 17 or maybe 18 waiting in line. All is good.

Table Runner Update

The table runner is well under way. It was to made from Charm Squares for a swap. I hope my partner is happy with it when it is received. I can't say that charm squares are my thing. I found them restricting but in saying that am happy with my progress so far. The charm pack is Gooseberry by Moda. The only additional fabric is a white Bella solid and a fabric for the binding which is yet to be chosen.

I saw a picture of a runner named Indian Sunset in a book titled 50 Quilts from Quiltmaker. I made my own pattern for paper piecing and using 2 packs of the same charm squares set to work. I was not able to put it together how I would like due to the limited number of charm squares in certain fabrics but think I will be happy with it overall. The left over charm squares have been joined to make the backing and the border for the front.

I love paper piecing. I takes longer, more fabric and removing those papers can be a pain but the finished product is well worth the fuss. So back to joining it all before getting out the tweezers to remove the papers.

Finish Along Quarter 3

2015 FAL at On the Windy SideI am going to have another go at participating in the Finish Along being hosted by Adrienne at On the Windy Side   http://www.onthewindyside.co.nz/ . I am hoping to have greater success than Quarter 1 and actually get some of the following items finished.

The following items are carried over from Quarter 1

1. AP&Q Mystery Quilt - just half the quilting left to go and then the binding. So close!

2. Deep Space - again finish quilting and then the binding.

3.  Squares - now has all borders and is just waiting to be quilted.

Now for the new additions:

4. Table Runner- refining the design and then actually making the runner. This one has a deadline so I should definitely complete something this quarter

5. Table Centre  - the trial run of the self planned and drawn pattern, part way completed.

There are other projects on the go but to be realistic I think this is enough for now.

Table Runner Swap

Another project has commenced. I have joined a swap to make a table runner for lovely quilter who is in the same block swap group as myself. My brief is to make a 21 inch square or 15 x 30 inch rectangle out of charm squares in bright colours. I looked at my options and have chosen to go with sophisticated brights by in the form of Gooseberry by Moda. I hope I have made the right choice. I have designed my own pattern and am going to paper piece a square table centre. As we have to work with charm squares my design has many pieces to enable the charm squares to be large enough to be trimmed back.

The design is made up of  on half rectangle triangles and fingers crossed it is going to look OK when completed.

Another project

I think you can never have enough projects on the go, that is my theory at least. I love to have many projects on the go at the same time and today I have pulled the fabric for another.

When my Mother in law passed away I was given all her fabric and the only request was that I make a quilt from it for her grandson, a gorgeous boy who is currently three and a half years old. The request was for a blue and red quilt. I have searched for something that I would enjoy making and that would suit the blue and red request for a boy that would see him grow. I found Nancy Mahoney's "True Colours"  http://nancymahoney.com/blog/2014/01/13/true-colors and decided that was the one to make. I have chosen many of the blue and red pieces from my MIL's stash and ordered Nancy's book Simple Circles and Quick Curves.

I am looking forward to starting this one but just may have to add an extra colour or two.

Maybe I should finish another project while I wait for the book, make some room in my sewing space.
