It has been a while

It has been a while since I have put anything out there. I have been working on a hexagon quilt which was meant to be something very different. The original layout was terrible and I did not want to waste the blocks so they were rearranged and this is the end result.

I am happy with how this one is shaping up. As it will be a 21st gift I hope that I can complete it in time and that the recipient will be happy with it. This is also on My Quarter 2 Finish Along list.

I am currently baking for the school fete after work each afternoon this week. There is not much time for sewing. Soon I will get back to it.

I am linking up with Crazy Mom Quilts for finish it up Friday.

I Spy a finish

2016 FAL

I have finished my first from the Quarter 2 Finish Along list. This is a quilt whose block construction goes back at least 10 years. It is nice to see it finished.

The backing is a Quilters Candy from Connecting Threads.

The binding is a cute black and white floral for which I have no details as there was no selvage, I think it may have been from my MILs fabrics.

I have quilted it with different sized diamonds, some of which overlap, using a red, blue, green and yellow variegated thread.

This is a gift for my Godson's daughter. I beat my need to finish deadline by a couple of days, a  very good feeling as this is a gift that will be delivered on time - a very rare occurrence.

All the best for your finishes.

Am Almost Finish

Hopefully, by the end of the week I can post my first finish for the 2nd quarter of the Finish Along.

I am happy with how this quilt is looking. I am quilting it with a diamond pattern to reflect the I spy squares being on point and using a variegated thread.

This needs to be finished by Thursday night. There is nothing like working to a deadline. Wish me luck!

Happy Stitching.

Finish Along Quarter 2 List

2016 FAL

I feel like I actually achieved something last quarter. There is nothing like a deadline to spur you along.

So here I go again making an impossible list. Mind you the first few items on my list for this quarter are carried over from last quarter and possibly last year.

Here goes!

Carried over

1. Deep Space - still need to finish quilting and then binding

 2. Jelly Roll Quilt - Basting, Quilting, Binding

3. Originally three now four sew together bags.

New Items

4. Equilateral Triangle Quilts. Beautiful red, black, white and grey prints. As you can see the whole thing needs to be made.

5. Owl Potholders

6. Giant hexies quilt (for a 21st - this one has a strict deadline).

7. Moda Love quilt (another 21st and even stricter deadline.)

8. I spy Squares - this is needed by the end of April, complete the piecing, baste, quilt and bind.

There seems to have been a lot blue and green in my quilts lately.

Happy stitching!

A Third Finish Just in Time for the end of the Quarter

Three finishes from my great list of UFOs and planned projects is a pretty good start to the year and possibly my best Finish Along quarter ever. my original list is here. Finish Along Q1 List I am happy with what I have acheived this quarter.

2016 FAL

This has finally become the quilt below.

This one is a mystery quilt that was featured in Australian Patchwork & Quilting magazine in 2014. There was a slight hiccup with the instructions but I got there in the end.

I changed the suggested colour way in the pattern. The original had a light coloured solid look for the main star and I wanted to make this one entirely from what I already had in the cupboard. I also lean towards the stronger and brighter colours hence the swapping out of the cream fabric for the blue and a rainbow of colours for the remainder of the quilt.

There is a hand dyed fabric from Lisa Walton at Dyed & Gone To Heaven ( the red fabric) as well as other fabrics from stash.

The borders were added just to make the quilt slightly larger. It has finished at 64 x 64 inches. I quilted it with alternating straight lines to follow the v of the star points, between 3 and 5 lines of quilting across each line of the star in the 4 big triangle quarters to the centre.

I am enjoying the brightness of this quilt.

Happy stitching.

Another Finish

Finish Number 2! I am on a roll.

2016 FAL

My nephew's quilt is finished. I have thoroughly enjoyed making this quilt. My first attempt at circles. Easy when you search as many tutorials as possible.
The photos do not do the colours in this quilt justice. There was too much sun on the day they were taken.

I am so happy with how the finished quilt looks. It is 84x72 inches and has 144 lines of quilting and many of my MIL fabrics. That was the deal, to make a quilt for this little man with his granma's fabrics as she is no longer here to make it herself.

I quilted it on my little old Bernina 1010. Getting it through the machine throat was a challenge at times but to be able to say I completed the whole quilt makes it so worth the effort.

This quilt is for him to wrap himself in our love. It was a pleasure to make.

Woohoo another finish from the Finish Along Quarter 1 list. Finish Along Q1 List

Progress, Slow but Steady Progress

My nephews quilt is progressing. I am half way through the quilting. I am straight line quilting this one by eye, so straight line may not be the best description for it.

I love it and cannot wait to see it finished. Only 60 or so more lines of quilting to go. There is so much more on my list to do I need to finish it soon. I am itching to start selecting fabric and cutting out more projects.
